Tips for Encouraging Your Child to Read
Is your child starting their educational experience? If so, it is important for you to provide a strong support system. You can do this by encouraging your child to practice the lessons learned in child care and preschool. Reading is one of the most important areas covered in preschool, and you can help your child discover a passion for this essential skill by following these tips:
Read to your child on a regular basis. Start promoting a love of reading from a young age by reading to your child on a regular basis. Hearing your voice will be comforting for your child. Reading aloud will also allow your child to start understanding the joy of reading before she starts learning! You can designate part of the day for story time, such as after lunch or before bedtime.
Keep plenty of books, magazines, and other reading materials in the house. Once your child starts learning how to read, you can show your support by providing a variety of reading materials. Place age-appropriate books, magazines, puzzles, and other materials around the house where your child can reach them. You can also plan family trips to the library so your child can pick out books.
Ask your child questions about what she reads. As your child becomes a stronger reader, she will start analyzing stories. You can help your child develop this important skill by starting conversations about what she reads. Ask questions about the characters and settings, including her favorite parts of each story.
Be a good role model. One of the easiest ways to encourage your child to read is to be a good role model! Children look to their parents for guidance, so it is important to set a positive example. If your child sees you reading regularly, she will get a better understanding of how fun it is.
