Early arts education, whether received at home or at structured child care centers, has an undeniable positive effect on childhood development. From stimulating creative thinking processes to instilling important values, arts education is an excellent way to nurture your child’s life skills. Some of the benefits children gain from learning about the arts includes:
- Development of Cognitive Abilities
Arts education helps to develop a child’s learning capabilities through its focus on critical thinking, creativity, and problem-solving skills. Unfortunately, many programs see art as an elective course rather than an essential one. If you intend to enroll your child in a child care or pre-k facility, be sure that the center you choose is one that values arts education and understand its worth in your child’s development.
- Development of Fine Motor Skills
The control with which a child must handle a crayon or pencil in order to create the image they perceive in their mind naturally develops their fine motor skills. As a child concentrates on moving the image from their imagination to the paper, they are unwittingly training their coordination and fine motor abilities to obey their brain. It is a fun way to develop these crucial skills without the child even being aware that they are doing so.
- Development of Social Skills
Arts education is not limited to drawing and coloring alone. Music, dance, and even storytelling are all included in the genre. All of these forms of art are capable of opening a child’s mind to other cultures, tastes, and preferences. It teaches a child to empathize and sympathize with other people on the deepest level possible, while also being on a level they can comprehend.
At A Child’s World Learning Center, we place an extremely high value on the benefits of early arts education. If you would like for your pre-kindergarten child to experience the richness of the arts and benefit from the learning of the same, give us a call at (215) 519-1993.

Self-confidence must be developed, but it can be difficult to know just how to foster self-confidence in a child. Enrolling your child in an excellent pre-k or child care program can help, but what else can you do to ensure your child is confident and strong? Explore this article for more information:
Give Praise
One of the best things you can do for your child is to give him or her praise and positive feedback. This reaffirms your child’s feelings about themselves, while also showing that you believe in your child. Even if a child struggles with a task or fails completely, point out the positives and show him or her how to grow from these challenges; this will help to foster the child’s confidence.
Choose Your Words Carefully
It can be very hard for a child to handle constructive criticism, and it can also be a challenge for parents to deliver criticism that truly is constructive. When you’re helping your child, be sure that any criticism you may give is not personal, but focused on their behavior instead.
Express Emotions
If you are able to express your own emotions in a clear and calm way, then you can help your child learn to express his or her own emotions similarly. Validate your child’s emotions by listening closely to what he or she has to say. Addressing your child’s feelings is one of the best ways to help your child build self-confidence.
Stay Positive
Remember, your child looks to you for guidance, so the better you are at staying positive, the more likely he or she will have a positive outlook on life, as well. Help your child set goals and focus on the achievements leading up to reaching those goals. Your child’s feelings of self-worth depend on your behavior as much as your child’s. Remind your child that no matter what, things can get better and he or she can always work to improve.
Building a child’s confidence isn’t easy, but with the right tools, it can be done. If you’re looking for a learning environment in which you can be sure your child’s confidence and intellect is being nurtured, consider A Child’s World Learning Center. Give us at a call at (215) 352-5279 for more information.
